RULES OF RACING
Maximum Driving Time

This rule states that no driver may drive more than three and a half consecutive hours at the 24 Hours at Daytona and the Six Hours of Watkins Glen. After three hours of consecutive driving, drivers must take a one-hour break before returning back into the car. Before there were ever any rules on a minimum number of drivers or maximum hours a driver could drive consecutively, some drivers would attempt to race events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring by themselves in order to conserve time in the pits. These rules were put into place due to the increasing performance of the cars and the increasing amounts of stress these changes were putting on the drivers. These rules are in place to help to prevent driver fatigue.

30-Minute Rule

This rule goes hand-in-hand with the previous rule. This rule states that all drivers on the team must drive a minimum of 30 minutes in order to receive points for the event. Time Spent under a red flag does not count towards the 30 minutes. This rule is to make sure that one driver is not becoming fatigued during the event and that all drivers are being used in the event.
